Getting More From Your Game Console

Today’s video game consoles are being designed more as a home entertainment system than just boxes you sit in front of with a controller in your hand.  New features of video game consoles also appeal more to every member of the family, and not just the stereotypical teen gamer.  Starting with the Wii console, controlling actions became easier through simply moving the controller with your arm.  Now, with the release of motion sensitive game consoles from Xbox and Playstation, Nintendo is no longer the only game in town for ease of use and home fitness.

So what else can you do with your game console? Are you taking full advantage of all the entertainment features of your Wii, Xbox, or Playstation console?  First, to really take advantage of all the features, you need to access a home wireless Internet network.  Many households have this today, as well as college dorms and vacation homes.  By installing access to online networks, you can download more games to your console, and access streaming movies from Netflix.  If you purchase games online, you’ll notice that they are often well developed games designed just for the console you’re downloading to, and they are less expensive than the $50-60 you can pay for retail games.  As for movies, Netflix members can download films, documentaries, and television shows that are offered through the Netflix service, at no extra cost over your membership fee.

Then there are the home fitness games.  Anyone from four year old to eighty can enjoy these games.  There are sports, workout routines, and competitions that are easy to play and fun.  There’s no problem with no being able to comprehend the controller buttons, since the actions are as simple as waiving your hand or just running and jumping in place.  Even retirement homes are installing these games, as they get people up off the couch and moving.  Strength, balance, and cardio workout games are available for all major game console systems. You don’t need to stand on a balance board either; with the Xbox Kinect, you can simply move in front of the sensor and it records your actions.

Add to all of these features the ability to surf the Web, or use a keyboard to send emails, and much more.  As time goes on, each manufacturer is developing new ways to take advantage of the functionality of these game consoles.  You’ll soon see they aren’t just for games any more.  Take the time to explore all the features available with your game system.  You will be surprised at how much fun and entertainment is accessible now with your game system.
